Black bean tacos make the menu pretty much on a weekly basis around here. What can I say? I love tacos!
Because I make so many tacos, it just makes sense to up a large batch of seasoning mix. It’s not like it will go bad in this house before we use it. Plus, it saves a little time making this quick and easy meal, super quick…Just store your mix in an air tight glass jar.
Taco Seasoning Mix
- 4 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne*
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika**
- 3 tablespoons cumin***
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons black pepper
I also sauté 1/4 cup white onion with 1 teaspoon fresh garlic and a lime juice before I add the spice mix. Of course you can skip all of this because onion and garlic are already in the mix and not everyone likes lime on their tacos
Start with 1 tablespoon of the mix and then add more if desired.
*if this mix is not spicy enough for you, add more cayenne. But only a little at a time. You can really over-do the cayenne.
**smoked paprika is not necessary, I just use it because I like a little of the Smokey flavor.
*** I LOVE LOVE cumin. If you don’t love love it, reduce to 2 tablespoons.
Because raw garlic is really good for your health, I add a little more raw garlic on top of my tacos. It gives even more awesome flavor too!
